Now that school has started we're getting back into the swing of regular routine. It's been a bit of a struggle for all of us to accept that summer is over. Jake caught the "man-bug" from his man-cercise sessions and lost his voice the first week of school. It was a real bummer, but Izzi and I coped by getting outside to enjoy the last vegetables from the garden as the sun's warmth fades. Ashton still spends a lot of time in the hammock (that I should take down soon) looking up at the apple trees and saying, "Look mama. They're getting bigger and bigger. Almost time to pick." They've started harvesting at Markie and Karol's house, so she thinks our trees are ready too. I hope the three bucks that have been frequenting our garden don't eat the best fruit before we do. It looks like we'll have another great harvest this year.
For the longest time Ashton was boycotting carrots, that is, until they got big enough in our garden. Now she sneaks off to pluck them from the earth, roll the dirt off on her pants, chuck the greens to "the ladies" and nibble on them "like a bunny rabbit". She'll eat five or six without even blinking. It's amazing. She's rather fond of the fresh green beans too. Below you can see her gameday "treats". It is nice to be back in football season, no?
