Powell, Laura and Win came over for a Valentine's Day breakfast of waffles-n-berries before we all headed out to Lake Crescent, Marymere Falls for a bit of hiking. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, Mr. Audobon himself did a big no-no and fed the "camp-robbers"--Grey-Jays leering in the trees and dive-bombing the cars. Ashton was super entertained and awed at the sight. Especially when Poppie played the game. (I like how you can see the reflection of the Jay in the Gould-Jones Honda hybrid windshield below.)We all agreed that the hike was the perfect distance with small kids. This time Win was able to walk nearly the whole thing (which is exciting to think about for Izzi's future hiking adventures.) It was nice that JakeBob toted our little Valentine this time. I was surprized to see so much snow. It was rather slippery on the bridges. This hike has all the perfect kid features....a tunnel to shout in, a river to stare at, bridges to cross, stairs to climb and a waterfall to make the summit epic. I liked being in the green forest. It felt good to breathe in some big fir oxygen.
Jake had originally cooked up a big Valentine's Day date for me, but I was much happier hiking as a family with some of our best friends in town rather than getting dolled up for dinner and maybe a movie. It was much more fun to put Ashton in a heart onsie with pink cords that proudly flaunt the holiday. Laura appreciated the heart patches kissing Izzi's knees. We shared a sappy, sweet sigh for little girls, and then ran to catch up with Win who was sneaking far enough ahead of us to be called "cougar bait."
To end the day Jake and I savored some Red Guitar wine with a few chocolates from a red heart in order to give the day its commercialized touch. It was a perfect holiday.
