We've managed to get out on some long drives and short hikes this summer. Ashton seems to love the car (once we get rolling). She coos at her cow, pig and lion until she falls asleep.
We were surprised how foggy it was up at Deer Park this last time. The trail had a bit of a Halloween feel to it. Nonetheless we poked around and had a picnic before heading home.

After the Lavender Festival we jumped back in the car and headed East. Our first stop was at Auntie A and Uncle Bo's for Izzi's first wine party. I felt more like a fly on the wall listening to everyone fade into flashback characters as the night progressed and the music rotated through many diferent decades. The next morning we headed out to see Uncle Bear one last time before he boards a plane for Nepal. We ventured to Ellensburg for a bit of the Jazz in the Valley scene and found familiar faces within minutes. The next day we traveled along the Teanaway and Yakima rivers, nibbling at cherries and nectarines in the sun along the way. We bedded down in Packwood for the night before heading up Mount Rainier bright and early the next morning.

Our little Ashton has been a real trooper in the car. She even manages a quick smile after getting her diaper changed before hitting the trail. We couldn't be happier with our traveler.

The mountain had 40% more snow than has been measured in the last decade, so our easy walking trails were still covered. Poppy (dressed characteristically in his sandals) carried Ashton in the ergo and had to slide down many portions of the trail. We had hoped to see an abundance of wildflowers, but instead got a winter wonderland. On the way out we saw a black bear making its way up the mountain just below the snow level.
